IRANIANS FOR A #FREEIRAN

WHAT ABOUT THE EVENT

The demonstrations in Iran affirm the balance of power is in fact shift-ing. #IranProtesters are today openly calling for an end to “velayat-e-faghih.” They want regime change and they want to do it themselves. The recent developments in Iran also suggest that concomitantly ad-dressing the Iranian nuclear threat, its support for international terror-ism, and its wanton disregard for human rights are not only possible, but also very much attainable. The only viable option is a democratic change in Iran — in the hands of the Iranian people and their organized opposition movement.

WHO WE ARE?

“The Organization of Iranian American Communities-U.S (OIAC). We are all-volunteer organization who seeks to promote human rights and democratic freedoms for the people in Iran. We hope to organize the Persian American community to advocate for a democratic, secular, and non-nuclear government in Iran. Our non-profit, Iranian community organization was founded in 1997. Grassroots members of the Iranian American culture and society hope to serve as a platform for Iranian Americans to work for human rights while standing in solidarity with the Iranian people.

WHAT WE DO?

By sponsoring the FREE IRAN rally, we aim to help Iranian Americans to do their parts in educating the public opinion about rights violations in Iran, and support women rights, minority rights and freedom of speech in Iran. OIAC works closely with the Ethics Committees to facilitate the Members of Congress, members of their teams and other elected officials’ trip to this event.

WHY WE SHOULD ATTEND?

Iranian threats are rising. There have been over thousands executions, some in public, and Iran’s meddling in Iraq and Syria is on the rise, causing thousands of thousand loss of lives and over 5 million refugees.  The Iranians outside Iran and their supporters should use this opportunity to show their supports for a #FreeIran

ABOUT THE LAST EVENTS

Iran Freedom Rally

On Saturday July 9, 2016, Tens of thousands of Iranians from 5 continents joined hundreds of parliamentarians, human rights activists, religious personalities, and other leaders at a huge rally in Paris.  Some 90 distinguished dignitaries addressed the large and enthusiastic crowd.

Called “Free Iran” rally, the gathering demanded for the international community to embrace the policy of democratic regime change in Iran by relying on capabilities of the Iranian people and their organized opposition.  Participants also demanded protection and safe resettlement for Iranian dissidents living in Camp Liberty (Hurriya), Iraq.  In order to effectively stem the global expansion of Islamist terrorism, rally additionally called for world powers to assertively challenge the government of Iran for gross violations of human rights and acting as the #1 state sponsor of terrorism.

Iranians defy regime as wave of protest spreads
January 1, 2018

“…While the overwhelming majority of the people of Iran are suffering from poverty, inflation and unemployment, most of the country’s wealth and revenues is spent on military and security apparatuses and military and regional interventions, or is being looted by the regime leaders or goes into their bank accounts,” said Maryam Rajavi, president-elect of the Paris-based opposition movement the National Resistance Council of Iran…”

Iran: Protesters Decry Economic Mismanagement, But Also Express Broader Frustrations
December 28, 2018

“…Throughout the day on Thursday, reports emerged from various cities in Iran regarding mass protests against high rates of inflations, rising food prices, and a general trend of economic mismanagement. The primary demonstrations took place in Mashhad, the country’s second most populous city, but others were reported in Neyshabour, Kashmar, Birjand, Shahroud, Noushahr, and Yazd, cities that span from central to north and northeastern Iran…”

THE WHITE HOUSE
Office of the Press Secretary
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
January 10, 2018
Statement by the Press Secretary on Iran Protests

The Trump Administration is deeply concerned by reports that the Iranian regime has imprisoned thousands of Iranian citizens in the past week for engaging in peaceful protests. Further reports that the regime has tortured or killed some of these demonstrators while in detention are even more disturbing. We will not remain silent as the Iranian dictatorship represses the basic rights of its citizens and will hold Iran’s leaders accountable for any violations. The protesters in Iran are expressing legitimate grievances, including demanding an end to their government’s oppression, corruption, and waste of national resources on military adventurism. Iran’s regime claims to support democracy, but when its own people express their aspirations for better lives and an end to injustice, it once again shows its true brutal nature. The United States calls for the immediate release of all political prisoners in Iran, including the victims of the most recent crackdown.

Iran protests: deaths in custody spark human rights concerns

“…Human rights activists in Iran have raised concerns about mass arrests during the country’s largest protests in nearly a decade after at least three demonstrators died in a notorious Tehran jail.
Two members of the Iranian parliament close to the reformist camp confirmed on Monday that one detainee, Sina Ghanbari, had died in Evin prison. Separately, Nasrin Sotoudeh, a prominent human rights lawyer, told the Guardian on the phone from Tehran that at least two other protesters had died in the jail. They have not yet been identified…”

Why the Iranian Uprising Won’t Die
January 07, 2018

“…Modern Iran has faced many uprisings, insurgencies and revolutions, from the 1905 Constitutional Revolution to the 1979 revolution to the 2009 Green Uprising. So the mass protests against the Islamic Republic that have taken place over the past few days are not unprecedented. But Iran has not witnessed such a storm since 2009, and possibly 1979. The Iran uprising of 2017 is the biggest challenge Iran’s theocracy has ever faced…”

Beyond tweets, here’s how Trump could help the Iranian protesters

“…President Trump has made it clear that the U.S. stands with Iranian protesters, whose demonstrations against the repressive government of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei were broken up last week but whose demands have yet to be answered. Trump could still aid their cause, and with a relatively easy, risk-free move: He could make public details of the regime’s corruption and help average Iranians understand the full extent of the national wealth that has been transferred from them to their government’s fat cats…”
